Overview

CIPRB worked with NCDC, DGHS and UNICEF-Bangladesh in Disability Friendly Healthcare (DFHC) project since its inception. In 2018, there was a baseline situational analysis on “Mainstreaming Disability Friendly Health Care (DFHC) Focusing MNC&AH Programme”. Based on the survey findings, NCDC of DGHS took initiatives to initiate DFHC for the persons with disabilities in the health facilities.

For the purpose of introducing the health care providers on DFHC concept, Training Manuals and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) were developed in 2019. In 2020, IEC materials (Poster, festoon, billboard, signages) were developed for DFHC. These IEC materials got final approval from Health Services Division (HSD) of MoHFW for distribution. In 2021-22 period, training on DFHC was organized in selected 22 Govt. health facilities at District and upazila level and 434 health care providers were trained. Printed manuals and IECs were distributed and facilities were observed to see post-training activities. Afterwards, in 2022-23, UNICEF has started infrastructural renovation of three selected health facility (Kurigram District Hospital, Kazipur Upazila Health Complex and Shahzadpur Upazila Health Complex of Sirajganj).

DFHC has been a newly introduced concept in the health system of Bangladesh. The project has led to one scientific publication till date (https://bmchealthservres.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12913-022-08538-6).
