Overview

Globally, road traffic injury (RTI) is recognised cause of death and disability around the world, claiming 1.35 million deaths annually (WHO, 2018). According to WHO estimation 24,954 people are dying  due to road traffic crashes in Bangladesh during 2016. Bloomberg Philanthropies has been providing funding support for “Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety 2020-2025 (BIGRS)” to address the huge burden of road traffic injuries globally. Currently this project is being implemented in 28 different cities in 15 different countries. Centre for Injury Prevention and Research, Bangladesh (CIPRB)  in collaboration with  the International Injury Research Unit of Jhon Hopkins University has been implementing the project  in Dhaka North City Corporation and Chattogram City Corporation of Bangladesh.
