CIPRB in brief
Centre for Injury Prevention and Research Bangladesh (CIPRB) is a Legal NGO in Bangladesh, registered with Bangladesh NGO Bureau and Society act XXI of 1860.
Since inception the Center has been engaged with innovation and good practice in the area of health and development. Research, training and program implantation are the major areas of interest of this organization.
Prevention of Injuries through Social Intervention and Education (PRECISE) is a unique invention of CIPRB in the field of Injury prevention.
The Centre for Injury Prevention and Research, Bangladesh (CIPRB) was founded in 2005 in order to combat and prevent mortality and morbidity caused by injury and promotes quality of life.
The origin of CIPRB can be traced back to the ground breaking, nation-wide community based inquiry called the Bangladesh Health and Injury Survey (BHIS) in 2005. The BHIS revealed that as traditional causes of child death – communicable and non-communicable diseases – has declined; the issue of child injury has emerged as a major health and severely under-recognized issue. The findings showed that every year in Bangladesh 30,000 children die, 13,000 children become permanently disabled and one million children suffer from illness as a result of preventable injury. Injuries alone account for 38 percent of all classifiable deaths in children aged 1-17 and injury-related mortality increases as children get older.
The BHIS survey identified lack of supervision, lack of information, a hazardous environment and traditional views of treating injury as 'God’s will' as the key factors behind child mortality and morbidity by injury in Bangladesh. However it is evident from developed countries that injuries can be prevented through proper interventions and awareness. In order to combat child mortality caused by injury, the Centre for Injury Prevention and Research, Bangladesh (CIPRB) was founded.
