Burn is a major public health problem in Bangladesh more than 365,000 people burnt every year due to electrical, thermal and other causes.  Among them total 27,000 needs hospitalization and die over 5,600.
About 31% burns were due to electrical injuries, about 26% were due to flame, about 25% were due to hot liquid, over 16% by hot object, about 2% by chemical and less than 1% was due to explosives.
• Approximately 173,000 children suffer from burn injuries every year in Bangladesh it is the 3rd leading cause of illness among children of 1-4 years.
• About 60% parents took their children to unqualified service providers after a burn incidence. About 41% parents took children to medicine shopkeepers after childhood burn.
• Burns are a significant cause of school absence and workday loss for children in Bangladesh and about 3,400 children become permanently disabled every year due to this devastating injury.
• It is a major cause of hospital admission and requires longer hospital stays, resulting in a huge economic and social burden for families.
• Young children are the most vulnerable group for burn.  Rural children are more than 4 times at risk to suffer from burn compared to urban.
•Home is the most common place for burn injury, cooking place being the most hazardous area at home. 
•Kupi Bati is responsible for 10% of the total flame burn
•Breakfast to lunch is the most vulnerable time for younger children when mothers are busy with household chores, fathers are at their workplace and elder siblings are at school.  About 46% childhood burns took place during this time.
This evidence obligated us to develop Burn Prevention Research and Training Centre in Bangladesh.
