Centre for Injury Prevention and Research, Bangladesh (CIPRB) is implementing an extensive research project named “Road Safety Demonstration Project” with the financial and technical support from Dutch non-profit Safe Crossings in three black spot of Dhaka-Sylhet (N2) highway namely –Nilkuthi, Namapara and Kunderpara in Narsingdi District. Both Highway intervention and Education and Awareness Program are in full progress.
Speed Hump, Rumble Strip, Bus Bay, New Reflective Sign and Road Marking has been installed in all locations. CNG driver orientation, leaflet distribution, school children training and video show is ongoing as a part of ACE program.
On May 9, 2015 the project was formally inaugurated at Nilkuthi. Md. Feroz Iqbal, Chief Engineer, Roads and Highway Department visited the sites as the chief guest of the opening ceremony. Internationally renowned road safety experts like Dr. Md. Mazharul Hoque, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, BUET, Engr. Habibur Rahman, Engr. Zakir Hossain, Md. Moniruzamman, Executive Engineer, Narsingdi Roads and Division and many other road safety experts attended the programme. Prof. Dr. AKM Fazlur Rahman, Executive Director, CIPRB, Directors and other officials of CIPRB were present among others. 10 Journalists from different media covered the news.
Md Feroz Iqbal, Chief Engineer, Roads and Highway Department gave thanks to CIPRB and expressed that RHD will replicate the project in other highways gradually.
