Dr Animesh Biswas recently completed his doctoral study from Orebro University, Sweden. Dr Animesh has been looked at the Maternal and Neonatal Death Review System in Bangladesh. There is a progressive reduction of maternal and neonatal deaths in Bangladesh. However, death numbers are still higher in developing country settings. Bangladesh is looking forward to achieve Sustainable Developmental Goal (SDG) by reducing unwanted maternal and neonatal deaths in next 15 years. Therefore, a comprehensive maternal and neonatal death review system in Bangladesh is need to be implemented to see its feasibility, acceptability and effects. Dr Animesh explored in his doctoral research that a death review system in Bangladesh support to improve maternal and neonatal health care services. Mapping of deaths by capturing each of the maternal, neonatal deaths and stillbirths in the community can easily identify most vulnerable areas in the community. Action plan taken at local level by the health system as per medical and social causes of deaths are able to reduce the future deaths. He also mentioned that the system is feasible and acceptable in the inbuilt government health system to run the maternal and neonatal death review though out the country. Dr Animesh is also working at the Reproductive and Child health Unit of CIPRB as Senior Scientist and working here for last nine years.
