Bangladesh Anchal and SwimSafe (BASS) project visit

Dr. Steve Beerman, Principal Investigator of Bangladesh Anchal and SwimSafe (BASS) Project, The University of British Columbia and Dr. Michael Linnan, Technical Director, The Alliance for Safe Children (TASC) visited CIPRB from 28 September to 30 September 2014.

Prof. Dr. AKM Fazlur Rahman, Executive Director, CIPRB, Dr. Aminur Rahman, Director, International Drowning Research Centre-Bangladesh (IDRC-B), employees of BASS project and other projects also attended a meeting on 28 September 2014. Prof. Dr. AKM Fazlur Rahman delivered his welcome speech and Dr. Aminur Rahman gave a presentation on the updates of the BASS project. The challenges of implementation of different activities were discussed. Dr. Linnan gave a presentation on research issues on the basis of the BASS project, capacity constraints for current pilot project and planning needs for continuation and expansion.

Dr. Beerman also presented on result-based management, accountability frame-work, paper writing–clarification, division of tasks, timelines and transition to Phase-2. On the same day they observed swimming training for disabled children at Mohakhali DOHS portable pool. On 29 September 2014, Dr. Linnan, Dr. Beerman, Dr. Aminur and CIPRB professionals visited Bangladesh Protibondhi Foundation (BPF).

Dr. Beerman, Dr. Linnan, Prof. Dr. AKM Fazlur Rahman and Dr. Aminur Rahman also visited BASS project area Raiganj on 30 September 2014. They observed different activities of the BASS project and attended a VIPC meeting there.
